It is with profound sadness that family and friends announce the passing of Simon Leonard Ganet, who died on May 9, 2026, at the age of 36 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Surrounded by the love of his family, Simon faced his illness with extraordinary bravery, optimism, and grace, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and compassion that touched countless lives.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, to Larry and Gale Ganet, Simon grew up in a close-knit family alongside his twin brother, Elliot, older brother, Max, and younger sister, Nina. From an early age, he developed the kind-hearted and welcoming personality that would define him throughout his life. He attended Naperville North High School before continuing his education at Western Illinois University, where he formed many lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories.

Simon’s life changed forever when he met Anne Hoesly, the love of his life, after walking into The Damen Tavern. Their connection quickly blossomed into a deep and enduring love, and the couple married on October 2, 2021. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, friendship, and unwavering devotion.

Those who knew Simon remember him as someone who brought joy wherever he went. Whether through a quick joke, a warm “nice to meet you,” or a loaf of homemade banana bread shared with friends, Simon had an extraordinary ability to make people feel welcome and cared for. His contagious optimism and genuine kindness left lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Simon had many passions that helped bring people together. He loved curling, baseball, baking, and building communities around shared interests and friendship. He approached life with curiosity, loyalty, and determination, always investing deeply in the people and experiences that mattered most to him. Friends say Simon could walk into any room and instantly make others feel valued, regardless of whether they had known him for years or had just met him moments earlier.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne Hoesly; his parents, Larry and Gale Ganet; his siblings Max (Caitlin) Ganet, Elliot (Samantha) Ganet, and Nina Ganet; his sister-in-law Susan Hoesly and brother-in-law Jimmy DeBlasio; his cherished nephews Walter, Harvey, Gordon, Akiva, and Teddy; and his parents-in-law Michael and Nan Hoesly. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Janet and Abner Ganet, Jane and Mel Seigel, and Hazel and Gordon MacLennan.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Congregation Etz Chaim. Shiva gatherings will take place in Glen Ellyn and Oak Park as family and friends come together to honor Simon’s memory and celebrate his remarkable life.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, Simon Leonard Ganet will forever be remembered for the love he shared, the communities he built, and the extraordinary kindness that defined his life.
