Cheyenne Phillips, 24, of Chino, California, has been identified as the woman who died in a tragic crash on westbound State Route 60 in Moreno Valley on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau. Her sudden death has left family members, friends, and members of the community mourning the loss of a young woman whose life ended far too soon.
The fatal collision occurred shortly before 2:15 p.m. near Day Street in Moreno Valley. Investigators with the California Highway Patrol reported that Phillips was driving a 2014 Acura MDX westbound on State Route 60 when the vehicle, believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed, passed several vehicles by driving along the center median shoulder. Authorities stated that the driver subsequently lost control of the SUV, causing it to overturn multiple times.
During the violent rollover crash, Phillips was ejected from the vehicle into the eastbound lanes of the freeway. According to investigators, she was then struck by a 2024 Tesla Model 3 traveling in the opposite direction. Emergency personnel arrived quickly at the scene, but Phillips was pronounced dead there due to the severity of her injuries.
First responders also discovered an infant child inside the rear seat of the Acura. Authorities said the child suffered minor injuries and was transported for medical evaluation and care. Officials have not released additional details regarding the infant’s condition or relationship to Phillips. The driver of the Tesla was not injured in the incident.
The California Highway Patrol stated that alcohol and drugs have not yet been ruled out as possible contributing factors, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Investigators continue to work to determine the full sequence of events that led to the fatal accident.
